From Alpine, Utah, Mckinley Hawkes received her dance training from a young age at Hi-Light Dance Academy where she trained heavily in jazz, contemporary, ballet, tap, and hip hop. In high school, she was a member of Lone Peak High School’s Performing Dance Company, where she served as the team’s rehearsal director. While at Lone Peak, she received the title of Dance Sterling Scholar, an award given for talent and academics. Growing up, Mckinley also studied the viola and the violin intensely, which she attributes to her attention to detail with musicality in her dancing and choreography. She has won numerous awards for her choreography both regionally and nationally.
Mckinley is a fourth year member of the 20-time National Champion BYU Cougarettes, and a third year Dance Captain for the team. While on Cougarettes she has won 3 national titles, a silver medal at ICU Worlds, and was part of the 2020 and 2021 US National Jazz team. Recently, Mckinley was selected to be part of the second class of Tone Society, a new breeding ground for choreographers under the direction of Shandon Perez and Toya Ambrosia. Mckinley is renowned for her hard work, energy, and style.
